Book review: Did you take the B from my ook?

Saturday, May 7, 2016 Permalink

My mum received a ‘joke’ present from someone at her exercise class late last year. I suspect it’s because she takes things seriously. This is a Ball by Beck and Matt Stanton was passed onto my friend’s son who ADORED it, as did his daycare teacher and class.

It was a no-brainer therefore when the same duo released a new book – although this childless 40-something year old normally shies away from children’s books I had to share it with 4yr old Pickle.

From the brilliant brains behind THIS IS A BALL comes a new giggle-inducing bestseller!

For the Grown-Ups:
OK. Two things you need to know. Firstly, your favourite thing in the whole world is the letter B. And secondly, you're about to sneeze and all the Bs are going to be blown out of the book. So until you can get your favourite letter back, you're about to sound really, really silly ... And the kids will love it!

Some may remember Pickle and I reviewing… well, reading Dinosaur Dump last year.

We had a few false starts this time around. We read the book the day I gave it to him and he’s read it A LOT since. I did wonder if he’s a little young for it as yet, but he seems to ‘get’ the joke and appreciate the humour.

I finally ‘interviewed’ him last night while I was babysitting and he was indulging in a pre-bed minion cupcake.*  And I love that he gets the title wrong… “Did you stolded the B from my book.”

As a non-educator, I also wonder if it helps him identify sounds… Because there was some extrapolation when we later read the book during ‘storytime’.

It’s fun book and like This is a Ball, it includes text for adults who aren’t particularly good at playing along…

Of course Pickle’s read both books so many times he picks me up when I go off-script.

imageI love these interactive books, which make bed and storytime so much more fun! For kids AND adults!

Did you take the B from my ook by Beck and Matt Stanton is available now via ABC Books and Harper Collins.

(Pickle and) I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review purposes.

PS. Check out the outtake I shared on Instagram – in which I’ve allowed Pickle a pre-bed cupcake and he attempts to coerce me into silence!!!

LOL! I love both books too.

I did ask if he had anything to tell me this morning and he confessed! I told him I like that he’s honest with me.

I remember the time you’d said we could only read 2 books and we read 4 (or something) you told me he confessed to it first thing the next day!

Sounds like a great concept. I haven’t seen books like this one yet. Sounds like it would be great for schools with kids experiencing speech delay.

Yes, I did’t think of that. I love that the adult reading the book can ‘play’ with the words a little. Same with the ‘This is a ball book’. You know… “What do you mean it’s not a ball?” etc…

I'd love to hear your thoughts
