Book review: Faithless in Death by JD Robb

Saturday, February 20, 2021 Permalink

Faithless in Death is JD Robb/Nora Roberts’ 52nd book in the Eve Dallas / Roarke (In Death) series and it’s probably the best I’ve read for some time.

I appreciate that Robb manages to come up with new plots and offers readers something different in each outing and I suspect it’s that, along with the like-ability of her main cast that keeps readers like me coming back. Again and again. And again and again. Well, 52 times.

Book review: Shadows In Death by JD Robb

Tuesday, September 8, 2020 Permalink

Shadows In Death is the 51st in the futuristic cop series by JD Robb. So, author Nora Roberts (writing as Robb) is obviously doing something right. The series kicked off in 1995 but—as I’ve mentioned before—our characters traverse time slowly so, Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her billionaire hubby really only exist when we’re there to see them. Just like Santa Claus. Except the opposite.

Here, Robb offers us something a little different. The ‘crime’ in question happens early, which isn’t uncommon. But usually we would spend the rest of the novel trying to work out whodunnit. Here Eve and her offsider, the delightful Detective Delia Peabody solve this pretty quickly. It’s murder for hire but things get complicated when Roarke’s (kinda sordid and unlawful) past comes back to haunt him (and those he cares about).

Book review: Golden in Death by JD Robb

Thursday, February 6, 2020 Permalink

JD Robb’s ‘In Death’ futuristic cop series is one of my ‘go-to’ reads. The arrival of a new instalment leap-frogs anything else in my to-be-read pile or reading queue. Golden in Death actually arrived on its publication day so I was completely justified in delving into it straight away.

Embarrassingly I really didn’t twig (for some time) that the book’s title was a nod to the fact that this is the 50th in the series. D’oh!

Book review: Vendetta in Death by JD Robb

Saturday, October 12, 2019 Permalink

I participated in some Q&A thingy on Twitter the other day. Someone asked a range of questions for followers to answer. One was: which author’s books do we own the most of. (And I’m sure that sentence isn’t grammatically correct, but #whatevs!)

Mine was pretty easy. Thirty-two (32) JD Robb books from the In Death series, I said. And number 33 arrived the day after.

Of course, her latest Vendetta in Death, is in fact the 49th in the futuristic cop series and I’m fairly sure I just requested the next for review – the aptly named Golden In Death – out in February 2020.

Book review: Connections in Death by JD Robb

Sunday, March 3, 2019 Permalink

This book arrived later than expected and I’d started to worry it was’t coming. JD Robb’s In Death series is ‘go-to’ read for me; a comfort read. I’ve demolished them all – the early ones several times.

But – I needn’t have feared as this – the 48th in the series – turned up in the mail at the end of a working week when I most certainly needed something entertaining to lift my spirits. (And there’s nothing like murder and mayhem to do just that!)

Book review: Leverage in Death by JD Robb

Wednesday, September 5, 2018 Permalink

I’ve reviewed a stack of JD Robb’s In Death series here and – before I blogged about books regularly – talked about the fact that the series was one of my comfort reads.

There was a teensy bit of a dip in my enjoyment a year or two ago, but whether I was feeling hard-to-please or Nora Roberts (ie. JD Robb) getting a bit stale, who knows; I’ve been enjoying the books again which is a good thing, as her latest is number 47 in the series!

Book review: Dark in Death by JD Robb

This book arrived amidst a number of others and – in terms of my chronologically (anally) sorted To-Be-Read pile – was well down the list. However… my mood dictated my reading choice for a change and I needed a comfort read. And JD Robb’s (Nora Roberts) In Death series definitely fits the bill.

Book review: Secrets in Death by JD Robb

Monday, September 18, 2017 Permalink

I requested a print copy of this book (as it’s the only series I’m attempting to collect*) and had been waiting somewhat impatiently as the release date came and went (I know… poor me! 😉 ). So when the electronic copy popped up in an online galley last week I jumped at the chance to get hold of it. Particularly given that Eve Dallas, Roarke and the In Death series are a a bit of a comfort read for me.

This is number 45 in the series and there are a few novellas and short stories as well. I know of someone for whom no. 44 was the first and they were able to enjoy it without having read the first 43, but I’d suggest if you’ve got holidays or free time, or are looking for a new series – head to the bookshop or your library and start at no. 1 and get to know the likeable and consistent characters JD Robb (Nora Roberts) has created.
