Did anyone else catch the Absolutely Fabulous Olympics special – shown here in Oz on ABCTV – this week?

Now, I’ve long been an Ab Fab fan, but… I must confess that this was basically the last straw for me.

I did initially wonder if ‘humour’ has changed or evolved since the show first aired back in the 1990s, but I can still watch episodes of the original series and chuckle at Eddy and Patsy’s exploits.

I can still cringe at their antics but ultimately want to be Eddy, inexplicably wealthy and pfaffing about town while drunk and dressed like someone half her age (and caring little).

I’ve struggled a bit with some of the recent series and specials which have aired, but hung in there – for old time’s sake.

But now… This…

I didn’t laugh. At all.

I don’t want to say it (speaking ill of the basically-dead ‘n’ all), but I have to: it was unfunny. The cringe factor was excessive. I mean, I love that perennial ditsy secretary Bubble is eccentric, but WTF was she supposed to be doing in those costumes and attempting to mimic various events? Again, not funny.

Trying. Too Hard.
