I have a confession. Yes… another. But I suspect I’m not alone in this one although it may sadly see me fall in your estimation a little. Umm… again.
I’m *ahem* prone to be a bit judgemental sometimes. And not in a ‘that person is a psychopath and best be avoided’ way.
Rather I can be judgemental in a way that besmirches my fellow human beings.
In this particular case I’m braving the wrath of the sisterhood.
Like women across the world (who didn’t ever expect a marriage proposal from George Clooney) I was stoked to see these headlines on the weekend….
However… then I saw the pictures.
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE this dress. But I noticed my first thought was actually more about its length.
And in the same batch of pictures there was this…
Now the lovely Amal is super-skinny so can pretty much wear anything, but I have to admit – all I could think was “But she’s a lawyer! And she’s in her mid 30s! She shouldn’t be wearing anything that short!”
Obviously I was conscious of these thoughts and pondered on them a little. Did I think the dress length was short enough to be skanky? Do I not believe professionals dress in super-short-skirts or dresses? Is it her age and the whole mutton dressed as lamb thing?
Perhaps I’m jealous. Or perhaps I’m a closet prude?
I remember having similar thoughts about TV’s Ally McBeal back in the day when debate raged about the length of her skirts. Of course that was more about what one would wear to court than to their hen’s party and the like. But still… you get my drift.
Do you sometimes find yourself getting all judgy judgy when you know you shouldn’t?
I know Amal looks great, but am I alone in thinking those dresses are pretty short?

Sure, it’s short & her legs are long…I say if you’ve got it… 🙂

Yes, perhaps it’s just jealousy…. From someone who should stick to a mumu! 😉

lol…

I think only Amal could pull off those short dresses with her amazing twiggy legs! I have been swooning over her outfits all week. I think she manages to look fashionable and classy. I admit it wasn’t what I expected to see her in, but I don’t have a problem with it.

Oh she definitely looks classy. As I was (over)analysing my feelings and wondering if I’d feel the same about an actress of singer (etc) in similar garb – ie. is it the ‘human rights lawyer’ thing?

I can cope with the length as long as the skirt is a little more fitted. All it would take is a photographer shooting from a low angle and we’d all be able to do a visual gynaecological examination on her.
October 1, 2014
Ah yes, particularly with the white dress!

Personally I think they were just a few centimetres too short for aesthetic purposes. But that’s just me. She has great legs but a teensy bit less thigh would have drawn the attention to her shapely legs rather than to the length of the skirt. I hope that makes sense.
October 1, 2014
Yes… I really liked the dress, but found myself distracted by its length!

I think she looks great in short skirts and dresses. I only wish I had her looks and her slimness. I didn’t think anything she was wearing was inappropriate. On the contrary, she seems to be the epitome of glamor.

I do admit on second look, though, that the white dress is not the most flattering of her outfits..I prefer the other things I’ve seen her in. That red dress is stunning on her.

But then…the picture (of her in the white dress) is truncated and we don’t see the whole picture…Maybe it would look better if we could see her shoes.

Mona, I found a full-length picture: http://cdn2.independent.ie/incoming/article30622048.ece/fc97c/ALTERNATES/h342/Cloon6.jpg

Well…she looks fantastic in the white dress in a full length picture. I take it back. She can wear just about anything.
October 1, 2014
I have to admit i am slightly jealous not only as she looks so fab but also as she snagged gc!
I am not a fan on short anything on me but if you can pull it off i say go for it!
October 1, 2014
Ahhh George….

Those dresses are SO short. But then she has the legs for it, me, not so much! I think the white dress would look much better with a fitted skirt. But then, she probably lives in those for work, so maybe these are her ‘fun’ and casual dresses. Each to their own.
October 1, 2014
Oh I kinda like the wide skirt thing. Wonder though if it’s like those old hoop petticoats that pop up and hit you in the face when you sit down?!
October 1, 2014
To be honest the first thing I thought when I saw the photo was wow her dress is pretty short! I guess that makes me judgy too.

Safety in numbers! 😉

I think what makes her skirts look short is the amount of legs on display. The same with Ally McBeal. Both have tall, skinny legs. I reckon its their legs going on forever that makes the comparison to the skirt having next to no length.
October 1, 2014
That’s probably it as well. Long skinny legs!

A little bit of wind (ala Marilyn Monroe fame) and we’d be seeing more than I’d want to see. The long legs are great but that is no reason to be trashy. The dresses are lovely but, for my taste, add another couple inches and they would look more lovely and more classy.
I am a lawyer and I have never seen a female attorney in such short dresses – this applies more for the McBeal character as Amal’s dresses clearly are not court attire. I have seen a few blouses that dipped a bit daringly for court wear. Perhaps the wearer was seeking all technical advantages. :-).

Ha! Absolutely – using all ‘weapons’ at their disposal! And yes, I loved the white dress, but a bit longer and I could have focused more on the dress and less on the danger of a wardrobe malfunction!
