Long time readers of this blog will know that I often have very excellent ideas (my talking Facebook App and Famous Person Bedtime Stories App are just two examples!). Why no one ever approaches me with a chequebook in hand to patent and copyright my brainwaves I do not know…
Anyhoo… today’s stroke of genius has been inspired by a few recent experiences.
Firstly I just finished reading a book about a sex cam worker. I don’t do non-fiction so this was no “Confessions of a Sex Cam Worker” type book. It was a mystery novel. Sort of. Which (nonetheless) made me ponder the life of sex workers – as one is prone to do when reading about it.
I also attended a yoga class on the weekend which finished with some partner pummelling massage. And no, not THAT sort of massage – more the making-woodchop-movements-across-their-shoulders massage. Although our partners did have to massage our heads.
As I sighed happily I was reminded of two things I find very blissful:
- Someone playing with my hair or softly massaging my head
- Someone playing with my feet or massaging them.
And having shared this love with every hairdresser or pedicurist I’ve ever met, I gather a lot of people say the same thing.
And the planets aligned as I have come up with a most excellent new business idea: something akin to a brothel without the sex; or things-a-President-might-not-call-sex; or even any role-playing. Rather – a place one can go and pay someone to play with your hair or your feet for an hour or so.
Unlike the hairdresser or beautician where head or feet massages are a small part of a broader experience this will be ALL ABOUT THE MASSAGE.
Now I know some people have a weird foot fetishes, but there’ll be no sexually gratified squeals or proclamations permitted… just zen-like sighs of pleasure.
I just need to come up with a name….
* Extreme / extremities… get it? Okay, so maybe not.
Any suggestions re what to call this fabulous new house of pleasure?
Would you pay to have someone only massage your head or feet?
PS. If I had kids I’d possibly pay them to do it – if they were capable of 30mins or more at a time. (In my experience, family members get bored easily!)

Yes! Yes! Yes! I never want those hairdresser head massages to end, the ones where they are washing out the peroxide *coughs*. I’ve often considered walking in and asking them what they would charge to wash my hair for an hour, but I figure that would make me look odd.

I know! Years ago (when I was more financially flush) I went to a hairdresser which allowed you to pay extra for a head massage and I always succumbed. Or even the offer of a conditioning treatment… if it meant extra time spent massaging my scalp, I was in!

I don’t know about the foot thing – I don’t like people touching my feet because I have hideous toenails, but I could get in on some head-rubbing action!

I have a friend who’s a bit foot phobic… either extremity is fine with me!

I’m married with five kids Deb and couldn’t beg a massage for love or money so you aren’t missing a thing in that department. Extreme extremities is a bloody brilliant name! I’m sure it would be a winner too. Go for it!

Ha! What if you bribed your kids?
When I was young I had really long hair and my two (male) cousins LOVED it. I used to convince them to brush my hair for me when they visited! 😉

Could be a new business venture! Am all for the hair playing. Am hoping to get an Indian head massage for the first time next week.

Oh, when I was looking for pictures I saw reference to an Indian Head Massage and I was intrigued.

I had my first proper (formal? qualified?) massage on a corporate retreat and one of the nicest parts was this perfect temperature damp towel on my feet before they massaged them. Probably because my feet stunk or something unglamorous like that, but still, relaxing.

I haven’t had any massages or facials (or even an eyebrow wax) since I finished full time work a couple of years ago but I used to love the full-on pedicures which involved putting your feet in the paraffin wax thingy. Bliss!

I’m trying to train Pickle to brush my hair. I’ll share him with you, though we’ve not managed more than about 30 seconds yet.

He needs to strengthen those biceps a little. Or perhaps it’s the attention span?!

It’s giving massages with happy endings a truly different meaning! 🙂 But I like it. Have always loved a head massage…

Ahhhh yes….

I agree with Pinky, I can’t even pay for massages in my house now, it’s like I’m a leper. But what a great idea, a massage that’s worth dribbling over…. I’d certainly pay. I had a sore lower back recently so had a massage – they may has well have wafted a banana leaf across my skin. And my physio sticks needles in me, then rotates them until things pop. It has to be fun!

Oh yes. I’ve never been a fan of therapeutic or sports massages. I was always more into the pampering kind!

I try SO hard to bribe my kids to scratch my back, brush my hair etc but they always want it back in return! Once they are old enough to be money hungry I will PAY the feckers to do it! Great post… and thanks for linking lovely, I appreciate your support and you! x

Thanks Emily!

I love head and feet massages too. When my husband was in China for work, he got a two hour massage and one whole hour was just on the feet! I have been wanting to fly there for that reason alone ever since!
In Sydney, there’s a placed called Nature’s Energy where you can get an Indian Head Massage that is supposed to be amazing!

Oh yes, I hadn’t heard of Indian Head Massages until I googled for pics.

Many years ago I worked as an acupuncturist and massage therapist. While I didn’t hate giving a head massage it did become slightly annoying all those pleasurable groans and grunts coming up from the table. Selfish people. No ever offered to give me one when I was finished with them. Shouldn’t grumble too much – at least they paid me for their pleasure.

Ooohhhhh…. I suspect friends always wanted freebies!
