I’m going to a 21st birthday party on the weekend and there’s a theme… we have to go as someone or something starting with the letter ‘b’.
Naturally – self-sufficient and independent-thinker that I am – I took to the internet for ideas. And… there were many! Characters from Bob The Builder to Bart Simpson, Bill Clinton, Britney Spears, Boy George, Borat and Bananas in Pyjamas. Things from babies to boxers, butterflies, belly dancers, ballet dancers, beer bottles, bikers and bacon.

I just saw the box-troll movie with a friend and her 3yr old so did contemplate a costume which involved me wearing a box… until I realised I wouldn’t be able to sit, or you know… move.
So I’m seeking advice from my gazillions of readers. (Okay, so there may not be that many. Indeed Google Analytics tells me my site had 5000 visits last month and that includes repeat offenders…. *sigh*)
Anyway, self-pity party over, back to the 21st! Before you get too carried away, I have some criteria for my costume (below):
- It can’t cost a lot of money – needs to be free or cheap
- I’m not very ‘handy’ or ‘creative’ so it needs to be easy to make
- I get hot really easily so it can’t be too warm
- I’m fat so there’s no way I’m wearing anything fitting or skimpy
- I’ll be related to most of the people I know there so, it can’t be too tasteless
- I’m in my 40s
- The funnier the better.
At the moment I’m leaning towards laziness (speaking with an accent and pretending I’m British all night); wearing black and adding a mask to go as a burglar (meh); or perhaps making a cylindrical costume and going as a can of beer.
So – I’m throwing myself at your mercy. Any suggestions for costumes starting with b?
I’m linking up with Trish from My Little Drummer Boys for Wordless Wednesday.

You don’t think you can fold yourself up into a box Deb? Bogan is always a winner! Flanno shirt!
October 15, 2014
Oh yes! I also thought of blonde or bimbo….

Bumble bee. Something black and yellow and a couple of antenna out of your head.

I think that’s an option my mum is considering. Will go on my ‘maybe’ list!

Hmmm …. I’m not very good at fancy dress but bogan, banana in pyjamas, ballerina, Bob the Builder seem doable without expense. Bogan = daggy clothes with a pair of thongs, banana in pyjamas = blue and white striped jammies with maybe a black top knot thingy on your head, ballerina = wear whatever with a tutu, Bob the Builder – pants, shirt and whack a tool belt on. Was that any help? LOL Hope you have a fun night! 🙂

All good ideas Min. PS. I wear daggy clothes with things every day of my life here so what are you implying?!?! 😉

I could whip you up a mankini if you want to go as Borat.
October 15, 2014
Oh, you’re too too TOO kind Char. I really mean that. #not Lime green just doesn’t do a lot for my complexion. 😉

Batman!! Boy, bear, bejewelled, bedazzled, bath, british, boring, blue (smurf) bride/bridesmaid!! That is a great theme!!
October 15, 2014
Oh bath! I love my baths… though not quite sure how I could carry that one off!
October 15, 2014
There are some great ideas here Deb – you could also go for a Betty Boop look or Barbarella if you are really game!! Have a great time whichever look you go for 🙂

Thanks!

I am terrible at this kind of thing……..some great ideas here though
October 15, 2014
Yes… Mind you… I still have a hankering to go as a box troll at this point!

Birthday suit!
(Sorry, not very helpful)
October 15, 2014
Argh! Could be dangerous – for everyone involved! 😉

Why not hit the Op Shops and see if you can find a “Ballerina” outfit….all you would need is a tight t-shirt or swimming costume/leotard. With a Skirt that has either lace on it or is made out of beautiful silky material…some pink tights and maybe find some cheap flat shoes from Big-W or K-mart {the ones that look like slippers/ballerina shoes}
And then walk with your feet pointed out, and a straight back!
I am hopeless at dress-ups 🙂
Have fun whatever you go as.

Thanks… hmmm… the tight shirt could be a problem. (Am sure I could find a tulle skirt of some sort though and make fake ballet shoes!). Although… I’d be worried I’d make a bit of a fool of myself given my overweightedness (not a word, I know!). A caricature of sorts. I don’t mind looking silly, but embarrassing – not so much!

Beggar or bag lady would be easy, or you can be really lazy and go as a Book Blogger?!
October 15, 2014
Ha! Love it!!! Perhaps I could just wear a sign!
October 15, 2014
I do hope one day I can sit and have dinner with you – I LOVE your sarcastic and dry sense of humour. Okay, so b – bee, beer bottle, birthday suit (just kidding 😉 ) boring, bazookas, ball, beautiful, banker, bra, bonkers, brazilian!! Okay I’ll shut up now xxx
October 15, 2014
Oh Brazilian. Eu falo um pouco de português.
October 16, 2014
Think I’d go for Bollywood style – wrap yourself in something that looks like a sari, paint on a bindi and put your hair in a low bun. Voila! (Don’t know how to say it in Hindi : )
October 16, 2014
Oh yes, a not-skimpy Bollywood outfit could work!
October 16, 2014
So many wonderful suggestions here Deb, I can’t think of any others. We definitely need to see the photos!
Have a fabulous time xx

October 17, 2014
Oh Anne! I like those ideas!!!
October 17, 2014
love the blog
October 18, 2014
Probably a little late…but bogan springs to mind…Just make sure you put your transfer taft of the Aussie flag on back to front.
October 18, 2014
I’m actually going with one of Anne’s suggestions. (Blackmail. Would have preferred bucket list but making a bucket to post a list on was a bit beyond my creative abilities!)
October 18, 2014
love it!
