I know I know… it’s a bit clichéd. Every blogger and their dog’s doing the ‘What to take to ProBlogger’ post. Or ‘My plans for ProBlogger’ or similar. And indeed I’ve done them in the past.
But I’m trying to post often in September to get my blogging mojo back and needed a pic-based post, so figured I’d offer up my own (very Debbish type) suggestions for… conference preparation.
1. Tools of the trade
These are no-brainers. In the blogging world (or in most really) you need your phone, laptop / iPad or similar and chargers. DO NOT FORGET CHARGERS! People who know their stuff also have alternatives to chargers… things that don’t require powerpoints to charge phones and laptops. They rely on the powers of the gods. Or something. Because – as you’d imagine – spare powerpoints are a rarity at blogging conferences as everyone dives for one during a break.
And though I was never a girl scout I am also taking my own spare Wifi modem thingy. I’m assuming Wifi will be provided at the venue but with 500+ freaks-who-live-their-lives-online all Facebooking, Instagramming, Snapchatting or Tweeting at once, things could get ugly.
2. Low tech options
Unless I’m bored and decide to do some blogging or live-tweet a session, I don’t tend to use my laptop during sessions. That’s because I’m old and still remember when we used quills and ink and stuff. Or not. Quite frankly I’ve tried typing notes before, but didn’t do anything with them. Better to write them into a notebook I can file away and ignore until I move house and need to declutter!
And someone asked if people are taking business cards or doing something with their phones to share info. I didn’t know there were apps for that, so I’ve got my old faithful business card packed.
3. Stuff for comfort
I’ll be taking my pillow. Yes sirree I’m a classy chick and take my own pillow because even though staff promise you ‘low soft’ pillows, they never bloody have them. I usually end up with my head on a folded towel, so as I have the luxury of driving, my pillow will be coming along.
Also in my bag (or another bag) will be some books. I’m not implying I’m going to skive off sessions to read in the bath. But… I might just find an hour or two here or there to do some reading. And as a book reviewer and blogger, that’s kinda what I do. Read.
4. Outfit for themed networking event
Okay, so I’ve failed here cos I really can’t be arsed. The theme for our Friday night networking event is something to do with stars. The shiny kind. Or the famous kind. But… meh. I’ve had other stuff on my plate so am yet to work out what I’m wearing… even though I leave home Wednesday for a work trip enroute. However… if you’re less apathetic than I, it’s great to make an effort cos people will remember if you come up with something clever.

Oh, I’m tempted.

5. Useful instructions
I’m yet to work out how to turn my iPhone into a GPS Navman thingy, so I still use maps. Sad but true. And because I hate being lost I have already printed my map with instructions of how to get to the venue.
And… in an impressive display of pre-conference organisation, I have printed out my schedule. I think I’ve also downloaded it into my online calendar along with room names and the like as technology permits us to sync sessions into our phones. This way we can legitimately stare at our phones as we walk from session to session, like Nigel-no-friends.
So there you have it. Exhaustive. Yes? Or perhaps not. I don’t care. It’s Wednesday and I posted. #joking #mostly
I’m linking up for Wordless Wednesday with Trish and My Little Drummer Boys.

Love it. I’m not remotely organised. Will be packing tomorrow, probably 15 minutes before rushing to the airport to pick up another Deb. Very excited about seeing you xx

Will be great to catch up Mel. I had to travel inland for work today and stopping in Mbro overnight before heading to the Coast tomorrow.

Next year…we can all meet up! Have a fabulous time…
September 7, 2016
Yay!
September 7, 2016
Super jealous, would love to be going to pro blogger. Have fun!
September 7, 2016
I thought I’d miss it the last couple of years I’ve skipped it but didn’t. Suspect the FOMO was actually worse than the ACTUAL missing out!
September 7, 2016
Awesome! Maybe one day I will make it to a conference! I love a good theme and the chance to wear a costume! I am spending way too much time planning my son’s Halloween costume, and how I can be involved in it..like Jane Goodall and a little baby chimpanzee? Or a gardener and her garden gnome? The list goes on and on.
Have fun and I can’t wait to hear what you decided for the theme event!
September 7, 2016
Erin I suspect I will just wear some bling-y jewellery! But Halloween sounds far more exciting. We don’t really still do it much here in Australia, though it is becoming more of a thing!

Me to a tee! However, I have the app on my phone got travel directions. Google maps. Have a great time! Looking forward to reading more about it later! Denyse x
September 7, 2016
I’ve got Google Maps I think Denyse, but does it talk to you? I have to admit the instructions for the hotel at the Gold Coast look pretty straight forward but I’ve got a medical appointment on the Sunshine Coast enroute so need them for that as well.
September 7, 2016
Yes Google maps talks to you (only just figured it out). It does eat up my battery though!
September 7, 2016
Eek!
September 9, 2016
Yes it talks to you! it is updated all the time. The sat nav in my 2014 car requires updates that cost about $300 so I use the iPhone app all the time!
September 10, 2016
OH, I didn’t work out how to get my iPhone to talk to me. In fact, it couldn’t even centre on my location as I drove through Brisbane Denyse. One of my closes friends lives and works on the southside of Brissy and I thought about dropping in on her workplace as a surprise. I’d found it on my map in advance but Google Maps couldn’t find my current location so I had no hope!

Upset to be missing out on Pro Blogger again this year, Hope you have a fantastic time
September 7, 2016
Thanks so much. As it gets closer I’m starting to look forward to it. I think.
September 7, 2016
I was trying to explain to my kids that we used to (as in like up.until 3 years ago) use road maps!!!! They could not grasp this concept. And I have to admit I sort of miss it as I actually used to learn where I was going vs my current Nav Man which always picks the “interesting” route!
Have fun! I am looking forward to your recap!!!
September 7, 2016
Thanks Jess. Sadly I’m still a user of maps – though not in books cos they get outdated too quickly…
September 7, 2016
Well my advice is to contact as many bloggers as you know and make definite times and places to meet up otherwise you will miss them. It’s so crowded and busy! You won’t be Nigel no-friends if you do that 🙂
September 7, 2016
Ah yes… not sure how many people I’ll recognise. I feel like a bit of an old timer in some ways but happy to chat to anyone really.
September 10, 2016
This is interesting because I’m not familiar with the event and like to hear what other bloggers are up to. I’m not sure I’d offer a pillow to someone who is going from room to room though, lol. Sounds like Friday is a chance to try out your Halloween ideas, let us know how it went,.
September 10, 2016
Sadly I made little effort with my theme outfit… though some did which was great. And my pillow was solely for me. I like a low flat pillow – hard to find in hotels – so (as I was driving) I took my own!
September 10, 2016
P.S. Love your bathtub graphic!
September 10, 2016
Thanks!
September 10, 2016
I hope you had a ball at PB. I’ve been following along on IG like a tragic. Hope to get there one year!
September 10, 2016
I did have a great time Alicia. I’d had a two year break so it was probably timely I came back!
