The lovely Lee-Anne from Is it just me? awarded me one of her lovely blog awards and invited me to share seven random things about myself.
I’ve done something similar before once or twice and overshare anyway… so offering up new facts is kinda hard, but as it’s Monday I thought I’d join the LaughLinkUp gang by sharing the weird and slightly embarrassing. Cos, well… why not?!
So… here goes:
- I chew the crap out of pens. When I worked in the real world my colleagues always knew which were mine without needing forensics to analyse the teeth indentations. And yes (I have an undergraduate psychology degree) I know what Freud would have to say about that little habit!
- I can only read in the bath. Once upon a time it was different. But now – magazine, real book or ebook – bath only. I’ve tried to read in bed, lying down…. but can’t.
- I don’t watch any television live. I record everything and watch it when I’m in the mood. And I like to binge-watch stuff so I’ll often save a few episodes to watch at once. Plus then I don’t have the pesky ads issue!
- I rarely listen to music although I’m not sure why cos I love it. Mostly when I’m at home I’m at my desk (writing stuff), in the bath (reading stuff), in front of the TV (watching stuff) or in bed. Trying to sleep ‘n’ stuff. And for some reason background music just isn’t something I ‘do’.
- I love the ‘People you may know’ function on LinkedIn. While I’d never consider Facebook’s ‘friends’ recommendations (hello, that’s my personal space!), I find myself intrigued as to who LinkedIn’s algorithms will suggest I connect with.
- #Inrelatednews. I’ve closed my blog Facebook pages. Cos, well… #meh. Now I just share my posts on my personal page with my meagre padre of friends. UNLESS… there’s embarrassing or very personal stuff in post, in which case I don’t share it. However… I tend to forget my blog posts are automatically shared on LinkedIn. So former colleagues, potential clients and various important people (who have
nothing better to dotime to kill and click on the link) can read my angsty blog posts. #Faaarck!
I’m a closet messy person. My living spaces are usually pretty tidy. I hate clutter and mess. Indeed, *some* may consider me to be a tad anal. However… my ‘hidden’ spaces are another matter. My desk looks like it’s been ransacked. My spare bedroom is usually filled with washed clothes needing to be returned to cupboards and wardrobes and… as for my own wardrobe, well… (refer to pic on the left!).
So there you have it. Seven exciting, weird and random things about me. I’m supposed to tag other bloggers now to share, but several people I know have already participated, so I’ll leave it up to you. Feel free to share random facts below in the comments or in your own blog post. Or feel free to tell me I’m not weird at all! 😉
Joining the LaughLinkUp today.

You’re not weird Deb or if you are, I am too…I found myself giggling in recognition of quite a few of your points. Linked In mystifies me entirely, I don’t even know what it IS?!
Thanks for sharing, you put a grin on my face and for a Monday morning that’s a big feat! 😀

Good to hear Lee-Anne. And yes, I’m not too sure about LInkedIn. My blog posts feed to it and I have lots of connections. That’s about all I know. I do check it out on my iPad as one of my pre-sleep rituals though – looking for any news / interesting articles.

Mmmmm. I’m just gonna say…. I misread the word “pens”.

Oh… ouch!

Ooh that Hugzilla is a naughty one! I don’t know how on earth you can read in the bath. Aren’t you afraid you’ll drop it in the water. Mind you I read on my treadmill which is unusual. I don’t get Linkedin either. I’m on it but that’s where it ends. If I had a spare room that’s where all my clean clothes would be as well. You’re not weird at all Deb. Except for reading in the bath 🙂

Many of my books (and reports when I was working) have crumpled pages from getting splashed. But… when I first got my iPad (when I started doing book reviews – as I get previews electronically) I bought a LifePro cover, which waterproofs it!
Cos there was once a whole iPhone in the bathtub incident… (That we shall never speak of again!)

Weird or quirky? Quirky sounds so much more fun so I’m going with quirky.
August 4, 2014
True – quirky is good! 🙂

You’re not weird, although not being able to read out of the bath would prove difficult if you were me! The only TV I watch live is SBS and ABC because there’s no adverts! When we had Foxtell we used to record what we watched so could avoid adverts!!! Thanks for linking 🙂

I didn’t confess to it here but I also have a bad habit of fast-forwarding shows – embarrassing scenes, sex scenes, car chases etc. Of course I usually then miss some important dialogue so have to rewind which defeats the point of fast forwarding to save time anyway!

I agree that number #2 is weird even though I’ve known it about you for some time. Can you read when in public transport? It must also mean you can’t just read a bit because you have to fill the bathtub before reading can even begin.. 🙂
I’m excited to hear you’re also a closet-messy person (and there’s a name for it)! I have no idea how my clothes closet gets so messy all the time and I always wonder how my mom’s closets are always in good order when I visit my parents house.
p.s. I’ve started wearing only bra and panties indoors because we’ve had a looooong heat wave in Finland. Temperatures have been 27-31 degrees Celsius.

I used to only be able to read lying down but five it really uncomfortable now. And when I lie on either side I squint and read out of one eye!
On the messy cupboard, the only blessing is my wardrobe is smaller here than in my old place.
As for your heat wave, we’re at opposite ends of the spectrum Satu. 30 degrees Celsius is pleasant here in summer cos when it’s really hot it’s closer to 40 degrees. But, we complain when we get below 0 in winter! (PS. Where I live our winter days are mostly 20-23 degrees and nights 10-15!)

Isn’t everyone a bit weird, and even weirder if they deny it? I don’t watch live TV any more either, iview and SBS on demand are such good alternatives now. Fast forwarding scenes is like skimming the prolonged descriptions of sunsets in novels. Life is too short.
August 4, 2014
Sadly I do the same with some novels Susan… And feel guilty if the prose is/are(?) very beautiful!
August 4, 2014
I rarely listen to music either for the same reasons. I am pretty much at a loss as to what I should be doing with LinkedIn I just accept link requests when I receive them and that’s about it.
August 4, 2014
Yes… Perhaps if we were business networky types LinkedIn would make more sense!?!
August 6, 2014
In relation to point number 7.
My two girls have developed there own special piece of furniture for the mess and clutter in their bedrooms. It’s called a floordrobe because that WHERE EVERY DAMN THING ENDS UP.
Great List – thanks for sharing
