Come Back to Me by Sara Foster is a release or reprint of her 2010 debut novel. I’ve read several of Foster’s books but discovered her after this was published. The events here come about thanks to a bizarre act of fate and what ensues could potentially be a second chance, and a time to do the right thing this time around… or it could be time to realise past decisions weren’t necessarily the wrong ones.
Some of the promotional material for The Hush by Sara Foster describe it as a ‘near-future thriller’ which I must say, is incredibly apt.
And… wow, just wow. Foster has managed to reflect many of the issues of increasing concern in society today, in a way that seems both fantastically impossible and completely comprehensible at the same time.
It’s an extremely clever book, with an inspired premise, though we’re seeing more and more books with George Orwellian-type themes, such as Kate Mildenhall’s The Mother Fault. Foster’s confronting narrative is further strengthened by fabulous characters who felt very real, complex and engaging.
When ticking the ‘genre’ of this book for this post I added romantic suspense because – though not generally a fan of ‘romance’ as such – I was completely taken with the burgeoning romance that underpinned much of this novel.
The book opens as our two leads, Alice and Noah meet, and I adored their relationship and the way it grew. It felt… well, um romantic. Of course it’s hampered by a backstory of long-kept secrets, guilt and death, so it’s not all rainbows and kittens.
Last year I read Sara Foster’s All That Is Lost Between Us and interviewed the West Australian-based author about some of the novel’s themes.
Interestingly her new release, The Hidden Hours is quite a different kind of book. In reality it’s probably one which better reflects my reading bread and butter so I devoured it in a sitting.

Her latest novel features several themes but I’ve taken the opportunity to talk to her about what I see as the biggie…. motherhood.
