Clarke by Holly Throsby was inspired by the high-profile disappearance of a woman (Lynette Dawson) in Australia in the early 1980s. Although the book is centred around the police’s sudden search for the body in the yard of the house in which the fictional Ginny Lawson used to live with her husband, it’s the impact that search has on the house’s new resident and neighbours that makes this a powerful and (ultimately) somewhat poignant read.

Book review: Goodwood by Holly Throsby

Goodwood is Australian author Holly Throsby’s first novel; but she’s also a songwriter and musician who’s released solo albums and a children’s album. The publisher’s blurb talks about Holly’s distinctive and lyrical voice – something that’s certainly true. I’m not familiar with any of her music but I get a sense of who she is and what her music would be like through this book, its narrative and its characters.
